Taylor Swift paid tribute to another music icon after winning nine out of the 11 awards she was nominated for at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The singer known for “Cruel Summer” was seen leaving New Jersey’s Prudential Center after the ceremony on Tuesday evening in a stylish denim minidress by EB Denim that had a modern, 1989-inspired take on Britney Spears’s 2001 AMAs look.
The iconic dress worn by Spears was a floor-length patchwork denim gown designed by Kurt and Bart. She accessorized it with a silver chain belt, crystal-embellished denim purse, and cascades of silver and diamond jewelry. Meanwhile, the brains behind Justin Timberlake’s matching denim-on-denim suit was costume designer Steven Gerstein.
Swift opted for a shorter dress, which featured a corseted bodice with vertical striped panels in different shades of blue denim, as well as a cut-off pleated miniskirt with every pleat in a different blue hue. She paired the mini with shimmering sky-high silver platform heels, a bedazzled silver handbag, and layers of gold, silver, and diamond jewelry, including the necklaces and earrings she wore with her slinky black Versace dress during the ceremony.
To complete her late-night look, Swift also wore her signature red lipstick at the after-party for the VMAs. While her ceremony Little Black Dress has fans speculating that she’s releasing a “Taylor’s Version” of Reputation soon, her dreamy party outfit seems to be a nod to her upcoming 1989 (Taylor’s Version) release in October.
