J.Lo Gets Emotional as She Receives Icon Award at 2022 iHeartRadio Awards: “I’m Only Just Beginning”

Lopez expressed her gratitude to those who believed in her even when she had doubts about herself. She also appreciated those who helped her discover her true self. Her remarks were made as she accepted an award before a live audience.

Jennifer Lopez received the Icon Award at the 2022 iHeartRadio Awards on Tuesday night (Mar. 22). She graced the stage wearing a stunning olive V-neck dress that reminded everyone of her famous Versace gown from the 2000 Grammy Awards. During her acceptance speech at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, she shared that although awards are not the most important thing to her, she does appreciate the shiny, sparkly things.

As tears welled up in her eyes, she explained that the reason why she does what she does is not for herself, but for the people who support her. The love, appreciation, and kindness they show her means everything. Even the smallest ways in which they let her into their lives are valued. She expressed her gratitude towards her supporters for making her dreams come true and for believing in her even when she didn’t believe in herself. They have taught her who she really is and how to overcome negativity. She encouraged them to remember that they too can overcome any obstacle.

As Lopez finished her speech, she left the audience with a promise that there is more to come. The speech was received with a standing ovation, and her family, including her two children and boyfriend Ben Affleck, were seated in the front row. The prestigious iHeartRadio Icon Award has previously been given to music legends like Bon Jovi in 2018 and Elton John in 2021.

After being introduced by Billy Porter, Lopez graced the stage and performed a medley of her famous hits. The performance was accompanied by a catwalk of drag stars who displayed some of the Icon Award recipient’s most beloved looks, including the famous Versace dress and her iconic Jenny From the Block music video outfit. Later, she appeared on a platform labeled “Equality” and went on to perform her popular song “Get Right” and her latest single “On My Way” from the romantic comedy film Marry Me.
