Scarlett Johansson sat down for an interview with PEOPLE and shared how her young son, Cosmo, became a key figure on the set of her latest film, Asteroid City. During filming, Cosmo was still an infant, but he quickly won over everyone on the set. Johansson admits that she wasn’t the one who garnered attention, but rather, it was her adorable baby that everyone wanted to see. “I actually wasn’t popular, it was just the baby,” shared Johansson. “People were excited to see the baby, not me. They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s you. Where’s baby?’” Cosmo will be turning two years old in August, and his time spent on the Asteroid City set undoubtedly created some unforgettable memories.
During breaks on set, both Cosmo and Jost kept Johansson company. She shared with PEOPLE, “My family joined me on set, including my husband and our newborn baby.” While some cast members had their partners present, many were alone or had slightly older children with them. Johansson joked that Cosmo became the “set baby” since she had a very young child. Jason Schwartzman suggested that everyone was happy to see the new addition to the set.
Back in September, Johansson opened up about the significance of her daughter’s name, Cosmo. During an interview with Kelly Clarkson, she revealed that both her daughter’s name and Rose Dorothy’s name were inspired by flowers. Cosmo is a cute little flower that can come in different shades of orange and yellow, which is why it resonated with Rose Dorothy. Johansson shared that she found the name “refreshing” and described it as charming, which is why her friends loved it too. Not many people make the connection between the two names, but to Johansson and her daughter, they hold special meaning.
It took some time for Jost’s mother to accept the idea of her son marrying Johansson. She kept presenting alternate versions, but Jost insisted that Johansson was the one for him.
